This is called the calming jar. On the left when the glitter is all shaken up it shows how your mind is when in constant thought, tension and stress. On he right it's much clearer with all the glitter settled on the bottom. This represents your mind with a yoga and meditation practice. Mental clarity and mental focus is our goal!

What does Mantra mean?
The word mantra is derived from 2 Sanskrit words: "Man" means mind and "Tra" means vehicle or instrument. So a mantra is a word or phrase that helps the mind travel to a place of peace and stillness. It is usually chanted out loud or mentally vibrated and is repeated over a period of time during a meditation practice. Chanting a mantra helps one concentrate more on being still in mind and body and allows thoughts to pass through without letting the mind engage in them and losing focus. Chanting a mantra in yoga class is not a religious practice but a way to bring focus and mental clarity to the mind. Mantras do not necessarily have to be in Sankskrit. Any positive affirmation can be a mantra. So next time...

A daily practice or sadhana will help you conquer your day.  You will be able to think more clearly, make better decisions and choices, take control of your life thus meeting reality with reality.  You will also find yourself to be more productive and ultimately more successful.  People will gain confidence in you with the strength you have gained by becoming more balanced with a daily routine.

Choose an activity that you enjoy doing.  By doing something you enjoy you are more likely to stick to it regularly.  If it motivates you to have others around you doing the same thing then join a gym or if you prefer having a partner then choose someone who is at the same level as you and has similar goals.  This way both of you may have one another to be accountable for showing up and encouraging one another to stick with your exercise plans.

If you have small children or even older ones incorporate family  fun activities involving them while all of you get exercise-such as walk to the pool or park, get involved and play outdoor games with them, go for a bike ride or hiking.  Show them that mom or dad can be fun...

What are your Thanksgiving Holiday Plans?

Thanksgiving Holiday is just around the corner.  Do you have a plan on how you will continue to practice your healthy goals?

Just because “Mr. Turkey” and friends are coming for the “BIG” dinner doesn’t mean you should give yourself the chance to derail your hard work towards your ultimate goal of being and staying healthy.    There are many ways you can stick your health plan and still enjoy the upcoming festivities.

Things you may do to help stick to your healthy plan:

  • If there is a buffet, don’t grab a plate and start filling it with the first item on the table. You should first scan the entire food selection and choose 3-4 items of which you would REALLY like...

In order to sustain or achieve your health and wellness goals it is important to challenge yourself one day at a time. Make your goals within reason and attainable thus making mini goals that lead to the ultimate goal.

One way you can help make your goals attainable is to publicize what you are trying to accomplish. When I say publicize I don’t mean for you to get an Ad out on a highway bulletin board. However, I do mean for you to talk about these goals to friends and family. By outwardly expressing what you would like to do helps motivate you and others in supporting you in getting where you want to be.

Talking to others face to face about your goals is not the only way you may reach out to people and let them be aware of what...

I never did but my friend Debbie Fried Katz owner of Way to Go Healthy asked me to try doing it for 5 minutes a day and then slowly increase the time every few days. I thought this would be the hardest thing for me to ever do since I am a movin’ and groovin’ type of person most of the time except when I am asleep.

I tried this for 5 minutes the first day. I actually turned my phone, TV and any other distraction OFF! I set the timer on the oven for 5 WHOLE minutes. I sat in the family room and thought to myself that I would never make it even 1 minute before I found myself involved in some busy work again. Believe it or not I actually made it 5 minutes actually doing NOTHING! I just sat and listened to myself breathe an...
