How Doing the Hard Thing Today Creates Freedom Tomorrow
Have you ever had one of those mornings where you just didn’t feel like doing the thing? Rolling out your mat, showing up for yourself, getting in that walk, or saying no when it’s easier to say yes? Me too. Yet, that’s where the magic lives.
One of my favorite quotes by James Clear says:
“Excuses make today easy and tomorrow hard. Discipline makes today hard and tomorrow easy.”
This is a key concept I share often in my yoga classes. It’s not just about the movement; it’s about the momentum.
Excuses Are Comfortable—Until They’re Not
Excuses can feel comforting. They may bring a short-term sense of relief. But what happens the next day? Or the day after that? We carry around the weight of our inaction and avoidance. This baggage starts to affect not only our bodies but also our energy levels. When we give in to excuses, we can feel stuck, sluggish, and even resentful.
The Cost of Procrastination
Procrastination has real consequences. When we avoid what we know we should do, we create cycles of guilt and shame. These patterns can hinder our growth and well-being. The next time you feel tempted to give in to an excuse, remember the long-term effects.
The Power of Doing the Hard Thing
Discipline isn’t about punishment; it’s about self-respect. It’s you deciding that your future self matters. When I step onto my mat at 7:30 AM, even when it’s the last thing I want to do, I remind myself that this moment is an act of love. It’s a declaration that I’m worth the effort.
That kind of discipline doesn’t just strengthen your body—it liberates your energy.
Why Discipline Leads to Freedom
Engaging in discipline can offer a newfound sense of freedom. Each time you overcome inertia, you break free from the constraints of self-doubt. When you invest in your well-being, you prepare for a brighter tomorrow.

Located just above your navel, the Solar Plexus chakra is your center of:
Willpower
Confidence
Personal power
Follow-through
When your Solar Plexus is strong, you trust yourself. You set boundaries and say “yes” to what truly serves you while saying “no” to what drains you. However, when this chakra is blocked, issues like procrastination, indecision, and self-doubt can creep in.
Balancing the Solar Plexus
To keep this chakra balanced, incorporate practices that boost your confidence. Meditations focusing on personal strength and willpower can be very beneficial. Releasing negative self-talk is also essential.
💛 A Personal Story: Healthy Choices That Got Easier
Recently, a niece observed my eating habits during family meals. She exclaimed, “Wow, you always eat so healthy!” When she noted it again, I hoped to leave a lasting impression. I explained, “I choose to eat these healthy dishes because I truly enjoy them. I’m not depriving myself; I’m respecting my body. And I give myself permission to enjoy a treat when I want to."
The Journey to Healthy Eating
It wasn’t always this easy. Initially, making healthy choices felt difficult. Yet, over time, repetition and love transformed those choices into habits. That’s what discipline looks like when it aligns with self-love: not rigidity, but devotion.
Try This: Solar Plexus Energy Practice
💛 Place both hands over your upper belly.
💛 Close your eyes.
💛 Breathe deeply into that space.
💛 Say silently or aloud: “I honor my inner fire. I choose discipline over excuses.”
Feel the warmth grow. This is you reclaiming your power.
