🌐 When the Wi-Fi Tests Your Zen: A Morning of Archetypes on the Mat

This morning’s yoga practice with my teacher came with a theme that hit deep: archetypes.

ree

She described archetypes as universal characters or patterns we all carry inside us — little inner “roles” that show up in how we think, feel, and respond to the world. Think of them as your own personal cast: the Warrior, the Child, the Victim, the Judge, and plenty more.

And by the end of class? I’d met every single one of them before breakfast.

🧘🏽‍♀️ The Scene: Yoga Class Turns into an Archetype Parade

I rolled out my mat, incense wafting, tea still warm, ready to sink into practice. My teacher’s voice floated through Zoom, and all was blissful…

Until — FREEZE.

Zoom crashed. Screen went black. Sound cut.

Cue the archetypes.

👧 The Child Archetype — Full-On Tantrum Mode

She was first on stage, and wow, did she make an entrance.

The Child stomped her metaphorical feet and wailed:

A toddler-level tantrum meets seasoned yogi calm… all on one yoga mat.
A toddler-level tantrum meets seasoned yogi calm… all on one yoga mat.
“But this is MY time! MY practice! This isn’t FAIR!”

I clicked and refreshed like a toddler banging on piano keys, muttering under my breath, “Why NOW of all mornings?”

🎭 The Victim Archetype — Poor Me!

Then the Victim slid in with a dramatic sigh:

Being the Victim
Being the Victim
“Of course this would happen to ME. The universe is against me. Why even bother?”

I flopped back on my mat like I was in a tragic movie scene. My flow was broken. My day “ruined.” Cue the violins.

⚔️ The Warrior Archetype — Picking Me Back Up

But then my inner Warrior spoke up — "NOT TODAY and I AM READY FOR ACTION!"

You Got This!
You Got This!
“Nope. Not today. Get up. Get back on Zoom. This practice is worth fighting for.”

Click. Reset. Log back in. Roll my mat back out. Return to the breath. Warrior energy carried me through.

⚖️ The Judge Archetype — The Inner Critic

Just as things were settling, the Judge appeared, clipboard in hand, ready to critique.

Really You?
Really You?
“Some yoga teacher you are. Losing your calm over Wi-Fi? What would your students think?”

Ouch. The Judge never holds back.

🦸🏽‍♂️ Enter the Hero — My Husband

Finally, my husband walked in from his morning walk to find me mid-drama. (Picture wild yogi hair and the aura of “don’t mess with me.”)

He glanced at me, shrugged, and said:

Alas! My hero
Alas! My hero
“Why don’t you just switch to the other router?”

I did. And voilà — crystal-clear internet. Cue eye roll… and relief.

🌱 The Real Lesson on the Mat (and Off)

Just allow yourself to notice and be curious
Just allow yourself to notice and be curious

This morning wasn’t just about yoga; it was a full archetype roll call:

  • The Child pouted.

  • The Victim wallowed.

  • The Judge criticized.

  • The Warrior pushed through.

The thing is, these voices live in all of us. The goal isn’t to silence them — it’s to notice them, sit with them, and then move on.

Because when you stuff down the tantrum, the judgment, or the victim moment, it doesn’t go away. It just waits… and eventually bursts out at the worst time (hello, Target checkout meltdown).

💭 Final Thought

Yoga doesn’t make you immune to life’s mini meltdowns — it makes you aware of them.

This morning, I met my inner Child, Victim, Judge, and Warrior, all in a single 60

-minute practice. And because I named them, I could laugh, reset, and carry on.

As I lay in savasana, I thought to myself,

“Wow, who said that? Me?”
