Consistency: The Secret to Reaching Your Goals

The other day, as I was lacing up my sneakers for my afternoon walk, I had this thought: Consistency really is the key to everything. It wasn’t a new idea—more like a reminder. But it hit me differently this time.

You see, movement has always been my non-negotiable. I’ve committed to moving my body every day, whether it’s a brisk walk, yoga, or just stretching. But life doesn’t always make that easy, does it?

Some mornings, things don’t go as planned—an early meeting, an unexpected errand, or just the need for a little extra rest.

And on those days, it’s tempting to let it slide. “I’ll skip it just this once,” I might think. But here’s the thing: skipping once often turns into skipping twice. Before you know it, the habit you worked so hard to build feels out of reach again.

So instead, I’ve learned to adapt. If I miss my morning walk, I’ll squeeze it in during the afternoon or even in the evening. Sometimes, it’s a long, peaceful stroll. Other times, it’s just a quick lap around the neighborhood. It doesn’t matter how much or how perfect—it matters that I showed up.

That’s when I realized: Consistency isn’t about doing something the same way every day; it’s about doing something every day, no matter how life looks.

I’ll be honest—there are days when I don’t feel like it. Days when the couch calls my name louder than the walking trail. But I remind myself of a simple truth and my daily motto: something is always better than nothing. Even a small effort moves you closer to your goals.

This isn’t just about walking. It’s about everything we’re trying to get better at. Whether you’re working on your health, learning a new skill, or deepening your spiritual practice, the secret is in the showing up. Not perfectly. Not grandly. Just consistently.

So, what’s your “movement”? What’s the thing you want to commit to every day? Maybe it’s journaling, drinking more water, meditating, or spending a few minutes outside. Whatever it is, remember: small steps count. And when you string enough of those small steps together, they add up to big change.

The next time you’re tempted to skip your practice or put off your goal, I want you to think of this: What’s one small thing I can do today? Because you don’t have to be perfect—you just have to keep going.

I’d love to hear your thoughts. What’s one thing you’ve stayed consistent with that’s made a difference in your life?
