Yoga is for inflexible people like me!

Updated: Mar 9, 2021

I personally want to showcase that yoga is accessible to everyone. And I believe that posting photos of us in complicated poses makes yoga more inaccessible.

I for one am not flexible or even strong enough to move into these complicated poses. Yes, me, a yoga teacher who cannot move into many complicated poses. I practice yoga poses to gain flexibility in my body so that I can feel good doing the things I most love to do with my family and friends. The regular practice allows me to feel confident about myself not only with yoga but in all others layer of life.

Some days all I can do is just sit on my mat and breathe! I tell all my students that if all they do is come to class and sit and breathe on the mat then they are practicing yoga!

My yoga practice is SO MUCH MORE than just asana. (poses). 1) I meditate daily. 2) I practice intentional long deep breathing throughout the day to keep me in a calm and nonreactive state of mind. 3) I try to eat all my meals mindfully. **Number 3 is the hardest for me!!!**

These are the things that have benefitted me the most in my life. And that is what I want to show my students.

Yoga is NOT just for flexible people. Yoga is a tool to help you gain flexibility in your body but also in your mind. How can your mind be flexible? Flexibility of the mind is where one allows their mind to let go of things that they have no control over and learn to use their energy on things they do have control over in life. Imagine, if we utilized all the energy that we have on the things we can control and let go of what we cannot, how much better our life practice would be!
